...Rob Preston, a North Carolina native from the foothils north of Winston-Salem. As the youngest of four children, Rob was an early study in the art of fixing broken devices (read: Big Wheels and bikes). His siblings' 8-track collections of Wings, Rush, Bob Seeger, and AC/DC recordings helped start him on the path to a career surrounded by music.

At age 12, Rob acquired his first musical intstrument: a cheap Conn acoustic guitar. A scant year later, Rob went electric: a Peavy Bandit amp and Gibson Invader were added to his arsenal. Within a few weeks of purchase, however, Rob had dismantled both the Gibson and the Peavy, and came to the quick realization that he couldn't afford to replace them. Thus, an electronics tech was born.

So, he fixed that which he had taken apart. A friend started to teach him college radio classics from the likes of REM, Squeeze, and Elvis Costello. His relationship with musical instruments flourished.

His ever-present yen to know how things work held sway, however, leading to his enrollement at UNC-Charlotte in 1986, where he studied Electrical Engineering. Following this tenure with an electronics degree from Forsyth Tech in 1990, he attained his main degree in 1992, when he graduated from UNCC with a Bachelors in Electronics Engineering Technology.
